Calculating Fuel (Detailed Instructions)

The purpose of the Fuel Calculator window is twofold. Firstly, to allow shippers to calculate the fuel required on a particular nomination, and secondly, to create fuel nominations. Fuel calculation is applicable to pathed transportation nominations which require both receipt and delivery locations. Fuel calculations for pathed nominations are considered separate transactions on NrG Web Highway and must appear on the grid as separate nomination line items.

Information displayed on the Fuel Calculator window is drawn directly from the Transportation grid. If records are incomplete i.e. do not have both receipt and delivery location or quantity, then the fuel rate will display as zero and the calculated fuel will be zero. If no fuel ratio is found for the receipt/delivery locations and effective date, the fuel ratio will be N/A and calculated as if it was zero. However, you should contact the Pipeline at (403) 267-3333 to report this. If the Ratio(%) contains an actual 0.00 then the ratio is a zero.

Viewing a fuel calculation

  1. Click Fuel on the toolbar to open the Fuel Calculator window. Be aware that prior to calculating fuel, NrG Web Highway attempts to save unsaved nominations. If the Save fails, the fuel dialog box will not open.

The field information is copied from the nominations grid. A fuel ratio will be applied to the nomination quantity to calculate the fuel.

  1. Click Show Details to display how fuel was calculated as well as the transportation path, quantity, fuel ratio, and required fuel for the selected nomination.

  1. Click Close to close the Fuel Calculator window after confirming the fuel calculation matches your own calculation, or proceed to create a fuel nomination by clicking the Create Fuel Nom(s) button.

Creating a fuel nomination

NrG Web Highway creates a fuel nomination by inserting a delivery nomination for each receipt point. This nomination has the transaction type set to "In-Kind fuel", the location set to "Empress" and the downstream contract set to the appropriate Fuel contract. Quantity is per calculation. You must remember to increase your Receipt nomination to include the fuel quantity.

You can also edit the fuel calculator information. The quantity or fuel ratio can be revised to create a new fuel quantity.

Remember - the fuel calculator is using the effective date on the nomination grid to retrieve the appropriate fuel ratio, and to create the new nomination. If you have the effective date as July 31, and you are creating August 1 nominations, you may get unexpected results.

  1. Create a new nomination.

  2. Click Fuel on the toolbar to open the Fuel Calculator window. Be aware that prior to calculating fuel, NrG Web Highway attempts to save unsaved nominations. If the Save fails, the fuel dialog box will not open.

The field information is copied from the nominations grid. A fuel ratio will be applied to the quantity to calculate the fuel.

  3. Click Create Fuel Nom(s). A new nomination line displays on the delivery grid.

  4. Edit the fuel nomination line. Remember that whenever a fuel quantity on a line item is changed, the total for that receipt location needs to be changed also.

  5. Save, Delete, Validate and/or Send the nomination.
