Nominations Tips

  • Creating Excel files for import onto NrG Web Highway
You need to know that when copying rows of data from an existing Excel file to create a new Excel file, if there are no values in any rows within the final column of the copied data, then the pasted rows will not recognize that the empty fields are valid. This means that a final comma will not be included for this field in the new CSV (comma separated value) file, therefore the number of columns in the new file will not match the number of columns in the header record, thus invalidating the file format.

There is an easy solution! Create a “dummy” final column, using your own naming convention, then populate all rows in that column. This will ensure that the number of columns matches the header records therefore the file will pass the system header check.

  • Displaying Nominations
You may need to scroll down on a grid to view all available information, or change to Tab view to display information available on a single grid.

  • Creating new nomination lines
When creating multiple new nominations, first create all the new nomination lines you need. Using the Tab key will allow you to move through all data fields in order, on each new nomination line, reducing mouse movement.

  • Duplicating
Duplicate and Duplicate with Options are now called Copy All and Copy Sel respectively in NrG Web Highway.

  • Changing Date fields:
    • Date fields do not accept 2 digits for the year. You must enter 4 digits.
    • The time will default to 09:00 if you manually enter a date without a time or use the date shortcuts.
    • Use the quick reference abbreviations to save time:

      Abbreviation Explanation
      NOW Today, current time.
      TOD Today.
      TOM Tomorrow.
      BOM Beginning of month.
      EOMP End of previous month.
EOMBL End of month before last.
      YES Yesterday.
EOM End of month - the last day of the month.
EOGM End of gas month or first day of the following month.
      BOMP Beginning of previous month.
BOMBL Beginning of month before last.
BOGY Beginning of Gas Year - Nov 1 current year.
EOGY End of Gas Year - Nov 1 next year.
BOSG Beginning of Summer Gas - Apr 1 current year.
EOSG End of Summer Gas - Nov 1 current year.
BOWG Beginning of Winter Gas - Nov 1 current year.
EOWG End of Winter Gas - Apr 1 next year.

Tip: Press the Tab or Enter key to commit any change to the date field.

Did You Know?

  • . . . that if you delete a nomination from the nominations module that has already been scheduled, then all of the scheduled quantity information is deleted at the same time. This means that the nomination will no longer display on scheduled quantity reports in the reporting module. Use caution when deleting 'old business' because the module will allow you to delete anything with a passed end date.

  • . . . that if you want to create a waiver on both TCPL and NGTL, the simplest way is to create the waiver for one pipeline then copy it, change the service provider in the new waiver record and save it.

  • . . . that in the reporting module, the reports that include the words 'all details' in their name are reports of scheduled quantities, and those that do not include 'all details' in their name are allocation quantities reports. Report names will be revisited in the future.

  • . . . that all messages and warnings from the Quick Response (pipeline validation) for title transfers for NGTL or TCPL (pipelines who use our matching and waiver process), are from the perspective of the buyer (receipt transaction). This means that you can receive errors about receipt or upstream fields even though your side of the transaction is a ‘sell’ (delivery). Both parties see the same messages and the pipeline responds from the receipt perspective.

Differences between TCPL and NGTL Business

  • Model Type
TCPL uses a combination of pathed non-threaded model types. NGTL uses only non-pathed transactions. An NGTL interface will display three tabs; Transfers In, Transfers Out, Transportation.

  • Nom Contracts
Contract selection is provided by a dropdown listbox containing valid data for the company being nominated.

  • Fuel Calculation
NGTL does not include fuel on their nominations. It is calculated after the fact as part of the allocation process. There is no fuel calculation button on the toobar.

  • Upstream/Downstream Contracts
TCPL sends NrG a datafeed of the valid upstream and downstream contracts. NGTL does not. Therefore shippers currently have to maintain this information themselves. Contract information can be maintained through the Up/Down Contracts module.

  • Sending Noms
NGTL shippers need to select the noms records to be sent. For TCPL, NrG Web Highway determines the records that have been changed and sends only the changed records or new records.

  • Fields Used
TCPL uses these fields that NGTL does not support:

    • Bid Transportation Rate

    • Minimum Scheduled Quantity

    • Exemption indicator

  • Transaction Types
    NGTL Uses:
    • Current Business (Valid on the transportation tab only)

    • Outage (Applies only to transportation noms)

    • Title Transfer (Valid on the transfers in/transfers out tabs only)

  • Re-nominating
To re-nominate a TCPL nom you must type-over the quantity field.

  • Package ID's
Package ID (enabled on title transfers transaction type only). This field is used by NGTL but not supported by TCPL. NrG field size accepts 30 characters (GISB Standard) but NGTL only uses the first 22.

  • Up/Down Contracts
NGTL Up/Down contracts are user defined for transportation noms, and datafed to NrG for title transfers.

Navigation Tips

  • Turn off the search and totals panels to give yourself more viewing area by clicking Full on the toolbar.

  • You can view tab or grid information full screen by clicking View, then Full on the toolbar

Keyboard Tricks

  • The Up and Down arrow keys move up and down the grid one line at a time.

  • Editing cells - press Enter to commit a change to that cell instead of moving off the cell.

  • Press Esc before committing a change to a cell, to display the original value in that cell. This action also closes any finder or calendar available for that field.

Browser Tips

  • We recommend you make the browser large enough to fit most of your screen before logging on to NrG Web Highway. Leaving a small border around the browser will enable you to clearly identify any new instances of the browser that are called while you are working in the Nominations module.

  • Microsoft IE and Netscape browsers have a tendency to display content for the same operations in different ways. Although we have developed and tested NrG Web Highway using version 4 and later browsers, you will notice some subtle display differences which are outside of the control of the service developed by NrG. Our recommendation is to use Netscape as your preferred browser when running NrG Web Highway.

  • Microsoft Office Taskbar - if this sits at the bottom of your screen and you are working on the Delivery grid, clicking on certain fields will cause some of the options on the dropdown menu to "hide" behind the shortcut bar. Move the shortcut bar to another location on your screen, or change display options. The customize your screen section explains how to change Taskbar options.

  • Use the Taskbar to quickly switch from one instance of the browser to another and move back to the Services page, allowing you to access another NrG Web Highway module.

  • Bookmark the Services page on your browser for quick access to the same page next time you logon to NrG Web Highway.
